BSCA HISTORY
The Bahamas Sportfishing & Conservation Association (BSCA) was formed by a group of visionary Bahamian sport fishermen that represent the best in fishing, conservation and integrity. The BSCA, as part of its mandate, is actively identifying critical needs affecting the marine environment in general and the sportfishing industry, specifically.
INCORPORATION
BSCA was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1992 of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in August 2003 as a non-profit organization with the primary objects being:

To foster the development of sportfishing & conservation,

To develop & manage a National Marine Conservation Programme,

To foster & develop Bahamianization of the sportfishing industry in The Bahamas, and
-
To foster & develop scholarship for Bahamian students in the marine sciences
During that same year, The Bahamas Sportfishing & Conservation Corporation (BSCC) was incorprated in the state of Texas of the United States of America as a non-profit organization.
The BSCA is governed by a Board of Directors that comprise a group of highly qualified Bahamian professionals in various fields of discipline including conservation, education, flyfishing, business administration, real estaate, legal, accounting and finance.
The BSCA has met all filing requirements in The Bahamas with the Registrar of Companies that is satisfied that the Association's name is still on the Register of Companies and also that it has filed all required documents.
Under section 14(1) of the Companies Act, 1992, the BSCA is exempt from the payment of any fees and charges normally levied by the Government.
The BSCA received exemption from Federal Income Tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code since June 2005. Any contributions made to the BSCA are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The BSCA is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code.
BSCA MISSION & GOALS
Our mission is to promote conservation of habitats, marine life as well as a sustainable fishery in The Bahamas. Our overall goals are as follows:
- To welcome all persons & organizations in the conservation effort in The Bahamas
- To develop, manage & support conservation programmes
- To advance the development of sound conservation principles
- To support the network of marine preserves
- To balance conservation with economic & recreational needs
- To advance ethical & professional standards among all stakeholders.
The BSCA focuses on the following specific goals:
- Increased education and public sensitivity
- Specie and habitat protection
- Marine conservation and research
- Industry sustainability
